John and Barbara Butyter on Mar 3, 2023

We are beyond saddened to learn of Joe's passing. Joe was our neighbor in Michigan, then became our dear friend for life. We never knew anyone else so helpful, selfless, humble, and kind. We will miss him more than you know. Our condolences to his family.

A man like no other. Joseph Peter Swejkowski, my husbands best friend. A kind soul to everyone. I will be right there was who he was to me. Always there. The first time I heard his name Chris told me at 17 years old I want to be like my uncle Joe. The first time I met him we were sitting on the stoop in Ferndale and we were having coffee I had a half cup of sugar in mine and he made me drink his to show me that all I needed was one scoop. He was right it tasted better! That’s how I drink my coffee today. When Chris called him he would say “What’s going on uglier than me or I wouldn’t give you a quarter for your looks. Or do you need a quarter cause you haven’t called, Or my all time favorite sweetly or hon how’s it going when I answered the phone. He had a million stories and Chris knows them all. There was never a time I went to the garage and did not see uncle Joe telling Chris how he was suppose to fix whatever they were working on that time. And never a time when Chris didn’t challenge him right back they would go on for hours debating about it. He was at every holiday at our house even when only my side of the family showed up. Chris could always count on one from his side to be there. Uncle Joe! When mom and dad had dinners there was always too much pop cause he had to get every kind for all his kids he would say. He is to me a great guide in life he was honest about his love for his wife and how we should be good to each other. He told stories from war and stories about his brothers, stories in Detroit as a kid and would never let us just come in to his house without having something to drink and he always was stocked up with rootbeer for Chris. He loved to fish and sit on his boat and razzed Chris about how crappy a fisherman Chris is. He was a great god father to chris always guiding him always there even in snow storms or cold winter days in an unheated garage. I never met a soul so beautiful as uncle joe. Soft when he needed to be, good at listening and don’t get him going on a story cause he could rant for hours. Always made us eat at the star and could talk about boats with Chris all night. He never left home without his ice water bottles and just started letting us pay for dinners. One time we went fishing and he would not let us pay for anything so we put money in his visor when he went in to pay for gas. He was not happy about that. I am willing to bet after Chris turned 17 Uncle Joe never had a boat or car that Chris didn’t help him work on and Chris never had a boat or car that Uncle Joe didn’t help him on. I will miss this man I know he is now with his wife again and finally holding her in his arms again.

Joe was not only a neighbor to me and my parents he turned into family we had a tradition everyday either him or us would either cook dinner or buy dinner he was the type of man that would give anyone the shirt off of his back he could make you laugh even if you wasn’t in the mood for laughing his personality lit up a room he might not have been my uncle by blood but he was my uncle by spirit continue to fly high and tell my dad I said I miss and love him until we meet again you will always remain in my heart and I love you forever fly high and watch over all of us

Another great man gone too soon. Uncle Joe had a million of nieces and nephews, but what separated him as an ordinary Uncle is he made every single one of us feel like we were his favorite. Pretty sure I can speak for all of us when I say you were our favorite Uncle. RIP Uncle Joe and tell the old man I said hello. #tightlines 🐠

Uncle Joe was always at the heart of our family for every Holiday, Sunday Dinner, and Life event. There are so many great memories, but my favorite were our West Branch/Oscoda Camping trips - The Hasiak clan caravanning up north for Lots of laughs, tubing, fishing, swimming, and smores with the kiddos. I will forever cherish the memories, his love, his compassion and Most of all how he loved each one of us kids as we were his own.
RIP Uncle Joe - You will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts ~ Franko & Jess

I feel blessed to have been a part of this kind, smart and talented guy. Joe was so knowledgeable. There wasn't a job he could not do. Joe never gave up on any task, always had the determination of getting the job done and with perfection. Joe welcomed me and my boys in this beautiful large Polish family and always treated my boys as his very own nephews. During the holidays he would walk in with an abundance of Christmas gifts for each and every niece and nephew, Joe's heart was full of love for everyone. I could go on and on, and the wonderful memories I have of Joe will forever remain in my heart.
Joe will be missed beyond words. RIP brother in law. Rose S
PS.. Ava will miss you and her Gatorade.

Uncle Joe will be missed by so many. Thank you for all of the great memories from my childhood all the way up to our last ice fishing trip together a few years back. My uncle Joe was one of the most selfless people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. He gave everything of himself, always helping others; never asking for anything in return.
Rest in Peace uncle Joe. Until we meet again…

My favorite part of sunday family dinners was seeing my Uncle Joe. He always brought cream soda because he knew it was my favorite. He’d bounce me on his leg til I was crying from laughter. And, ALWAYS gave us the bag of mints he kept stocked in his car. I’ll miss you Uncle Joe.
