Robert Anthony Ternes, age 88, passed away surrounded by his family October 16, 2022.

Robert was born August 30, 1934, in Detroit, to the late Elenore and Clarence Ternes. Robert started his career working for the Detroit Police Department for 10 years. After leaving he completed trade school and started his own building company, Comfort Craft Construction. He successfully owned and operated the business since 1968, through the years he taught many of his sons and other members of the police force his trade. He was a proud member of St. Clare of Montefalco Church where he was a member of the choir and assisted in maintenance and built the remembrance wall used in the funerals for all members of the church. He also frequently attended St. Matthew's church, which held a special place in both and his wife's heart after both of their children attended school and were baptized there. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Grosse Pointe Men's Club, which he thoroughly enjoyed dressing up to attend. Robert was an extraordinary gardener, becoming a Master Gardener and being invited to give talks on the subject to many gardening clubs throughout the area. He loved to share his knowledge and skills with all, but especially his children and grandchildren, leading many of them to become Master Gardeners themselves and helping create beautiful gardens at their homes. Once he harvested from his garden, he put his other hobby into action, canning. He made the most amazing, sweet pickles, spaghetti, and even had lessons for the family and neighbors to come over and learn his technique on "Sauerkraut Day". Robert was a hardworking, caring individual that loved to share his knowledge and experience with anyone in his life.

Cherished husband of Sue Ternes. Beloved father of MaryAnn Kelly, John (Debora) Ternes, Jeanne McGregor, the late Elizabeth Dugan, Suzanne (Seamus) McKenna, Camille (Daniel) Sand, Mary (Michael) Bamford, Charles (Roxanne) Benoit, Jeffory (Cyndi) Benoit, John (Christine) Benoit, the late James Benoit, and Bruce Benoit. Loving grandfather of 25 and great-grandfather of 14. Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Ann Ternes.

Visitation for Robert will take place Thursday, October 20, 2022, from 4-8pm, 7pm Rosary and Knights of Columbus service, at Chas. Verheyden, Inc., 16300 Mack Ave. Grosse Pointe Park. Funeral Mass Friday, October 21, 2022, instate at 10am until time of Mass, 10:30am at St. Clare of Montefalco, 1401 Whittier Rd, Grosse Pointe Park. With burial to follow at Assumption Grotto Cemetery.
