Donald J. Verstraete, age 91, died on Sunday, April 3, 2022, in Macomb, Michigan. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 30, 1930, to the late Theodore and the late Mary (nee: Van De Mortel) Verstraete.
He was a proud Veteran of the US Army. Donald was a General Foreman for General Dynamics. He was a past President of the UAW Local 1200. In his spare time, Donald enjoyed bowling and golfing. He had a keen interest in cars, especially Thunderbirds.
Donald was the loving father of Mary (Randy Boughner) Verstraete, Mike Verstraete, Joe (Maria) Verstraete, Beth Verstraete, Ted (Lovie) Verstraete, John (Kim) Verstraete, Kathy Griswold, the late Don Verstraete, and the late Gerry Shiemke. Cherished grandfather of 18 and many great-grandchildren. Dear brother of the late Geraldine Gesaman. Beloved partner of Karen Kers.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 14 from 10 am until the time of his Funeral Service at 12 noon at Chas. Verheyden, Inc., 16300 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Park. Military Honors will follow his funeral service at the funeral home. Interment to take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township
I was so sorry to hear of Don's passing. I always enjoyed his company, and was lucky enough to golf with him! He and your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
