Marie Pierre Brady

Marie Pierre (nee Wayne) Brady, age 78, passed away November 11, 2021.

Marie was born April 3, 1943, in Detroit, to the late Evelyn and Peter Wayne. She graduated from Marygrove College prior to attending Wayne State University for her Master's degree. She taught in the Grosse Pointe Public Schools at Ferry School, then later served as a long term substitute in the Grosse Pointe school system well into her 70s. She was well-regarded for her proficiency as a substitute math teacher and tutor, and teaching was a true passion. Mostly she was known for her warm smile, kindness and concern for others, and positive outlook while demonstrating perseverance.

Marie had a lust for life; no one had a fuller dance card. In addition to the joy of engaging in all manner of social activities, she enjoyed golf, skiing, tennis, walking, water aerobics and gardening. She was an avid reader and film enthusiast, enjoying a wide range of genres. With a generous and giving spirit, Marie extensively volunteered her time with many local organizations, notably including Tau Beta, Junior League, and the Fontbonne Auxiliary at Ascension St. John Hospital, and served as the President of the Board of Trustees of her beloved Grosse Pointe Academy. Marie loved to play bridge and mah-jong with her dear friends, which also involved much conversation and many laughs. She was a member of Questers, an active parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea, and loved to travel. Highlights included trips to China, the Holy Land, Europe, and family vacations in Harbor Beach and Harbor Springs, MI.

More than anything Marie enjoyed spending time with her family, and was particularly proud of her eight grandchildren, never missing opportunities to be with them, and certainly to show them off.

Cherished wife of the late Edmund M. Brady, Jr., daughter of her late parents Peter H. and Evelyn Wayne. Beloved mother of Edmund III (Holly), Meghan, Timothy (Michelle), and the late Katie Brady. Proud "Bapa" and Grandma of Blake, Brady, and Hayden Hishmeh; Alex, Henry, and Franny Brady; and Parker and Blair Brady. Loving sister of Peter H. Wayne, III.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 23, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 467 Fairford, Grosse Pointe Woods. Visitation begins at 9 a.m. at the church. The service will be live streamed on Our Lady Star of the Sea's website, OLSOS.org.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fontbonne Auxiliary (stjonfontbonne.org), the Grosse Pointe Academy (gpacademy.org), or the International Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia Foundation (iwmf.org).

Sending prayers to Marie’s family. Marie was one of the best math subs we had at GPN and a wonderful, caring woman.

Marie was one of the best people I have ever known. She will be greatly missed.

Joe Versical on Nov 22, 2021

Marie Pierre had such a vivacious and effervescent personality. She always asked how you and your family were doing. She was a big part of our family for so many years. She will be so missed but her light will continue to shine! Joe and Linda Versical

Marie was a neighbor who lived across the street in Lake Shore Village in St. Clair Shores in 1964 before we both ended up in Grosse Pointe. She was as beautiful then as she was all of her life. Having moved well over 25 years ago, I would see Marie and Ed at charitable events but not as often to become close friends. Sadly, the last time I saw her was when she sat next to me at a funeral for a mutual friend. It was at Star of the Sea where her life will be honored on Tuesday. I will attend her Mass to honor a wonderful woman who dazzled the world with her radiant smile and her kindness. Sending sincere condolences to her children, family and many friends. May she rest in peace among the angels. Sending love, Jane (Marshall) Spence
