Obituary

Robert A. Smith II of Grosse Pointe passed away on December 15, 2019 at the age of 81. He was born in Jackson, Michigan to Harland R. Smith and Emily J. (Penn) Smith. He was a proud Navy veteran and served in active duty in Great Lakes, Illinois and attended Albion College for 4 years. He completed his Master's Degree at the University of Michigan. He married his beloved wife Marlene (Dawson) and began his career in finance as a stockbroker associate and Vice President of Investments at Morgan Stanley. Bob enjoyed reading spy novels and studying history, specifically WWII era, playing and watching a variety of sports, traveling, especially in Europe with France being his favorite place on Earth. He loved going to the Michigan football games and other local sporting events, museums, and other historically and culturally significant locations. He also loved road trips, cooking and going to fine restaurants. Gardening, cross word puzzles, playing cards & Backgammon were also among some of his favorite hobbies. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Robert III (Toni Del Sorbo) and his sister, Pennie Corn. Memorial contributions may be made to University of Michigan Rowing or to the Grosse Pointe Rowing Club.
