The Honorable Horace W. Gilmore

The Honorable Horace W. Gilmore, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He will be dearly missed. Horace was born on April 4, 1918 in Columbus, Ohio the son of Charles and Lucille Gilmore. Horace graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1942. After 4 years of service in the US Navy, Horace began his professional law career, notably serving as a Wayne County Circuit Judge from 1956 to 1980 and then upon the appointment by President Jimmy Carter as a United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan from 1980 to 1998. Horace was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Gilmore and daughter, Frances Hayward. Horace is survived by wife, Janina Gilmore; daughter Lindsay (Alan) Fisch; step-son, Marek Malinowski; grandsons, David (Carolina) Hayward, Ethan (Jessica) Lasser and Luke Feinberg; great-grandson Levi Weldon Lasser.
Funeral Information
Visitation Thursday 1:00-8:00 pm at Chas. Verheyden Funeral Home, 16300 Mack, Grosse Pointe. Funeral Friday 3:00 pm at Christ Church Grosse Pointe, 61 Grosse Pointe Blvd. Grosse Pointe Farms.
