Obituary for Marjorie Helen McClure (Oberteuffer)

Marjorie O. McClure died peacefully on January 10, 2019 after a short illness. Marjorie (Midge) was born in Detroit on January 23, 1927, the youngest daughter of Reece and Margaret Oberteuffer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Frances McDonnell, and her husband, Douglas T. McClure.

Midge was a graduate of Pine Manor Junior College and University of Arizona. She and Doug were married in 1951 and she outlived her beloved husband by six years. A resident of Grosse Pointe Farms her entire adult life, Midge was the devoted mother of 3 children (Douglas T., Jr., Julie, and Peter) and grandmother of 7. She was actively involved in community activities throughout her life, was an avid bridge player, enthusiastic golfer and tennis player, and long-time member of the Garden Club of Michigan , Tau Beta Association, and Junior League of Detroit. She enjoyed escaping Michigan winters for the sunshine at the Lost Tree Club in North Palm Beach, FL.

She is survived by her sons Douglas, Jr. of Rye, NY (wife Leslie) and Peter of Superior, CO (wife Alecia); daughter Julie Chandler of Philadelphia, PA (husband Richard); and 7 grandchildren (Douglas McClure, III; Lindsay, Reece, Lauren and Margaret Chandler; Kyle and Evan McClure).
